Okay, so you’ve found this little blog of mine, and now you’re trying to work out what it’s all about.
Don’t worry. I’m still trying to figure that out myself.
I’m hoping this will be a record of how I made the switch from corporate desk jockey to full-time freelance writer. After nearly 20 years in IT it’s time for me to stop dreaming of becoming a writer and start doing it. And I hope I can bring you with me on that journey. (If it doesn’t work out I’ll be able to look at it and say, “Ah, so that’s where everything went pear-shaped”.)
Of course that journey will involve a lot more than “wrote a piece, got it published. Wrote another piece, got it published”. (Mind you, if it could be as simple as that I’d really appreciate it.) No doubt I’ll be battling with ideas, with editors, and with my own confidence. I’ll be writing about that too, because it’s all part of the same journey—whether I like it or not.
And then there’s the stuff that’s completely unrelated to the journey—the random thoughts that run through my head from time to time. I’ll be writing about those too, because it’s a lot cheaper than therapy.
Well, that’s what I hope will happen with this blog. If it doesn’t, then I can at least take comfort in the fact it’s getting me to sit down in front of the keyboard and write every day.
